Decisions

  1. Alice will coordinate with Vanessa to provide a check for $150, which the board approved in order to become a sponsor of the San Jose Book Festival. Members who help staff the South Bay Writers table will have the opportunity to sell their books.
  2. Hal will be reimbursed for expenses related to moving his work on our website from his personal site to one that is owned by South Bay Writers. The cost will be approximately $400/year.
  3. Ryan will update the shared calendar so that all board members have access. Each board member will update their availability so we can choose a date for an in-person board meeting in June.
  4. To avoid conflicting with the San Jose Book Festival on September 12 (our normal September meeting date), we will take an informal poll at the May meeting to decide on when to reschedule our September meeting. 

Discussions

  1. Edie will get in touch with her contacts at the local newspaper regarding publicity for our June speaker, Karen Joy Fowler.
  2. Amanda discussed an idea for having a new type of raffle, for which the prize is the opportunity for the winner to read from their writing, for 5-10 minutes, at the next club meeting.
  3. Carolyn discussed the possibility of reaching out to people who view/like the public facing South Bay Writers facebook page.
  4. Hal and Ryan described upcoming changes to our website as we transition from Hostgator to Squarespace.
  5. Alice reported that our current bank balance has increased by about $4000 since last year. The main sources of revenue are membership dues and meeting fees.
  6. Tonya reported the current membership stands at 112 members. She also will provide a raffle prize to members who renew on before the May 9 meeting.
  7. Shari announced the upcoming speakers for June and August, as well as the write-in event scheduled for May 13.
  8. Bill provided a recap of central board activities.
  9. Vanessa answered questions about the San Jose Book Festival.
