Lindsay WhitingLindsay Whiting to Speak

How I Got Published: Independent and Self-Publishing Today

Lindsay Whiting tells the story of how she wrote her first book, Living into Art, Journeys Through Collage, and then made the decision to self-publish. You’ll hear about the challenges and rewards of becoming a published author, including the myths, misperceptions and realities of book selling today.

Lindsay Whiting is the owner of Paper Lantern, a small, independent publisher of greeting cards, art prints and her first book, Living into Art, Journeys Through Collage. Inspired to write Living into Art through her life-changing journey collaging at a group studio in Sonoma, California, Whiting conducted more than forty hours of interviews with fourteen artists to complete the manuscript, and then made the decision to self-publish a full-color book under her own company name, Paper Lantern. Since the book’s release, in Spring 2008, Whiting has been speaking on self-publishing and facilitating collage workshops at art centers, community bookstores and in private studios. Visit Paper Lantern!

Drawing from more than twenty years of experience in print production and publishing, Whiting also consults with individuals who have written information to share and want to self-publish their material in book or electronic formats. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a B.A. in Journalism and Women’s Studies, Whiting currently lives in the beauty of Sonoma, California’s wine country.
